Shelter Plus Care
Program
Description
Shelter Plus Care provides rental assistance that, when combined with social
services, provides supportive housing for homeless people with
disabilities. These people often need more than shelter to live
independently; they often need medical care or other social services. This
program provides them with rental assistance in connection with support from
other providers. The Henderson Mental Health Center determines eligibility
and serves as the clearing house for referrals from various community mental
health providers.
Eligibility
To be eligible to receive rental assistance, the individual's income must
fall within the specified Section 8 income limits, and the individual must be
homeless and have a mental disability. Eligibility in the program is
determined by the Henderson Mental Health Center. Referrals to Shelter Plus Care
can be made by concerned citizens and various community providers.
