Public Housing provides decent and safe rental housing for eligible and low-income families, the elderly and persons with disabilities.  Broward County Housing Authority manages eight public housing sites: two 100-unit complexes for the elderly and disabled, 78 single-family homes, and 308 multi-family units.

Eligibility
Public Housing is limited to low-income families and individuals.  Eligibility is based on:
1. annual gross income (refer to income limit chart below)
2. whether you qualify as elderly, a person with a disability, or as a family
3. US citizenship or eligible immigration status.

BCHA's Role
BCHA is responsible for the management and operation of its public housing sites.  The Authority is responsible for all ongoing functions, such as:
  • assuring compliance with the lease agreement;
  • setting charges (e.g., security deposit, damages to unit, and sales and service);
  • performing annual reexamination of the family's income;
  • terminating leases when necessary;
  • maintaining the development in a decent, safe and sanitary condition.
Resident's Role
The resident is responsible for:
  • complying with the lease agreement;
  • immediately reporting any changes in income or family composition to the manager within 10 days, in writing;
  • paying rent on time;
  • maintaining all tenant paid utilities;
  • notifying the office of any problems in  their apartment;
  • keeping their apartment in good condition.
