Section 8 Landlord Information
A landlord may participate in the
Section 8 program with only one tenant, if he/she
wishes. BCHA cannot refer tenants to owners; we can only list owners who
are participating in the program. BCHA cannot screen tenants and only
determines program eligibility.
Home, apartments and duplexes may be utilized in the program. The dwelling unit must pass the program's housing standards and be maintained up to those standards as long as the owner receives housing assistance payments. In addition, the landlord is expected to provide the services agreed to as part of the lease signed with the tenant and the contract signed with BCHA. Currently, BCHA may subsidize units in all of Broward County, except in the City of Hollywood.
Tenants may rent furnished apartments, but the subsidy is for the unit only. The tenant may contract with the owner to pay for the rental of furniture.
