Bios
Rico J. Petrocelli was appointed by Governor Crist to the Board of Commissioners for a four year term beginning December 21, 2009. On April 20, 2011 he was elected Commission Chair. He is a longtime Broward resident, with a long history of volunteer work with youth athletics. He is a former City of Plantation Councilman, previous Basketball Commissioner to the Plantation Athletic League, Past Member of the Plantation Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, and now serves on the Plantation Complete Census Committee of 2010. Commissioner Petrocelli has been married to his wife Camille for 33 years, and they have six children and ten grandchildren. He is the owner of a daily online community newspaper, the Plantation Journal. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Broward Republican Executive Committee.
Mercedes J. Núñez was elected Commission Vice-Chair on April 20, 2011. Ms. Núñez is a resident commissioner and represents all Public Housing and Section 8 residents. She attended NYU Prep School, Hunter College and State University of NY at Binghamton. Ms. Núñez has worked as a 911 communications operator for the Broward Sheriff's Office and has been involved with the Muscular Dystrophy Association since 1978.
Juan Selaya was appointed to the Board of Commissioners by Governor Crist in May, 2008. Mr. Selaya is the President and Broker-Owner of J.A.S. Properties in Hollywood, Florida. He is a long time South Florida resident with a history of local community involvement. Mr. Selaya is bi-lingual in English and Spanish and has a significant track record of marketing and doing business with Spanish speaking populations in the United States, the Caribbean, and throughout South America. Mr. Selaya is a member of the Broward Health Community Advisory Board and its Bio-Ethics Committee of North Broward Medical Center, a part of Broward Health. He is presently developing a non-profit organization to assist Florida residents to rent or purchase affordable housing.
Sharon Day was originally appointed to the Board by Governor Bush on April 21, 2005. Ms. Day is a Texas native who has been involved in many community service activities. She has a broad business background and an extensive understanding of the Broward County area. She currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC).
Jennifer Nicole is an attorney and shareholder with the firm of Gunster, Yoakley and Stewart, PA in Fort Lauderdale. She is a graduate of the University of Miami and the University of Virginia School of Law. A member of the firm since 1998, Ms. Nicole practices in the Business Litigation Group. She has been active in the community as a member of the Junior League of Fort Lauderdale, serving as the Community Vice President in 2008-09, Finance Vice President in 2007-08, and Riverwalk Run Chair from 2005-07. She resides in Plantation and was appointed by Governor Charlie Crist to the Board of Commissioners on December 28, 2010.
